The Falcons keep their playoff run going with the defeat of the Fountain Valley Barons, by a final score of 5-3 in the second round of postseason play.

The Falcons opened up a 5-0 lead after three innings off of timely hitting.  Brian Erickson drove in Will Grimm, who led off the game with a double, in the first inning with a clutch 2 out hit.  The 2nd inning saw Isaac Sung deliver his 2 out hit to plate JD Schaffer, who earlier reached on a hit-by-pitch.  The 3rd inning saw Erickson deliver again for the Falcon's offense.  On a 3-2 pitch Erickson hit a 3 run bomb to give the Falcons a comfortable lead after 3.

Trevor Beer started on the hill and went 4 2/3 innings for the game after being removed once he reached his pitch count limit of 110.  Don't let the
4 & 2/3 fool you regarding Beer's efficiency.  The strike zone was extremely tight to say the least, which left the players, coaches, and fans flabbergasted by the lack of strike calls.  Beer ended the night only allowing 1 unearned run.

Luke Hempel was tasked with closing out the game for the Falcons and he delivered again in a stressful situation.  The 6th inning saw the game tighten up when after a couple of Falcon defensive miscues, Fountain Valley pulled to within 2 runs.  An inning ending double play by the Falcons settled things down.  The nervy 6th gave way to the 7th and Hempel confidently went after the Baron hitters and was able to wrap up the game.

The Falcons move on to the quarterfinals on Friday and hope to keep their playoff hopes alive.
