The Falcons suffered their first loss of the season to Bonita High School by a score of 6-5 in 8 innings.

The Falcons jumped on Bonita in the bottom of the first inning, when Ryan Lynch led off the game with an infield single, and Adrian Damla drove him in on a triple to right field.  Kewin Ledesma was then able to score Damla on a groundout.

With the score 2-0, the Falcons were looking good, but it didn't last long.  Bonita quickly fought back and tied the score up on a 2 run triple...game on!

The Falcons again took the lead after a lead off double by Nico Arredondo.  After a sacrifice bunt from Chase Walker moved pinch runner, Dakota Cummins to third, an errant throw from the pitcher on a pick play at third base, allowed Cummins to score.  The Falcons were now up 3-2.

As before the lead didn't last long, and Bonita fought back with three runs.  Three well placed chopping ground balls, a bunt, and a couple of base hits, and the Falcons found themselves down 5-3.

It was now the Falcons turn to mount a comeback and they did.  Wes Wallker and Jaimy Blank were able to get on base to lead off the inning.  After a sacrifice bunt from Arredondo moved the runners to second and third, Chase Walker was able to drive home both runners on an infield single and a wild throw to first base.  The score was now tied at 5 all.  With two outs in the inning, Damla stepped up to the plate, with Chase Walker at second base.  Damla delivered a clutch hit to center field, but a good throw by the center fielder was able to nail Walker at the plate on a close play.

After a scoreless 7th inning, it was time for extra innings, and the 8th inning wasn't kind to the Falcons.  After Bonita's leadoff batter reached base, they were able to manufacture a run after a sacrifice bunt and sacrifice fly ball.  With a one run lead, Bonita was able to hold the Falcons off in the bottom of the eighth inning, and that was the game.

It was a tough loss for the Falcons, but one that was a good learning lesson for the players.  It was the type of loss that will hopefully pay dividends later in the season, when they find themselves in the same position.

See you at the next game!
