The Falcons took on highly ranked Loyola High School in a midweek double header last night.  The rain thankfully stayed away and the Falcons did their best to defend their home turf.  Unfortunately, it wasn't the Falcons night and they lost both games to the Cubs.

The first game looked to be going in the Falcons favor when Michael Russo smashed a grand slam over the right field fence in the bottom half of the third inning to give the Falcons a 4-1 lead.  The Falcons at one point were leading 5-2, but the Cubs were able to chip back and eventually tied up the game at 5-5, which pushed the game into extra innings.  The Cubs took the lead in the top of the tenth inning on a controversial call at the plate, and ended up winning 7-5.  It was the type of game that left the Falcons fans feeling like it should have been a win, but all in all, it was an exciting game.

Highlights of the game:

  • 3 hits by Ryan Lynch
  • 2 hits by Bryan Wang
  • Great defensive play by Austin Brines, who was recently converted from a catcher to outfielder...also a big double late in the game
  • As mentioned earlier, the grand slam by Michael Russo, who also made a great catch against the fence in foul territory (still need to check the fence for damage!)

Unfortunately I was unable to attend Game 2, but the Falcons came up short in that one as well 9-3.

See you at the next game!
