The season came to end for the Falcons tonight as they lost to Yucaipa, by a final of 5-3, in the quarterfinals of the playoffs.  The Falcons almost managed to squeak out a win, against a very good team, but it just wasn't meant to be.

This is the write-up I dread each year.  Only one team can end the season with a "W" and unfortunately it wasn't us this year.  The particulars of the final game and the pain of losing will slowly melt away, but the memories the 2018 team created will last a lifetime for the players.

This was an interesting team to be around. No one seemed quite sure how things were going to go at the start.  It took time for the players to get comfortable with each other with the uniforms on under the bright lights.  As each game went by you could see them growing and getting stronger on the field.  Those tight bonds, that can only be formed during competition, were solidifying with each game that passed, and within a very short time this team had a personality.  There was nothing flashy, just solid play, and getting things done in the right moments of each game.  The moment was never too big for this group, and there seemed to be a different guy to step up in each game to deliver in the clutch.  Heroes came in all shapes, sizes, and game experience.

It is always sad to see the tears flow as the players come to grips with the realization that these are the last moments they will spend together as a team.  It is those tears that give significance to the meaning of Team, and the specialness of this time in the players lives.

I am very fortunate to have the greatest seat in the house to witness all the action.  This was a great group of young men to be around and I've enjoyed watching all the big moments of the season.  I will always remember the two games against Arcadia when the boys ripped the hearts out of the Apache's perfect season, and then doubled down to leave them with no title.  Those victories were on a different level of exhilaration!  14-0 in league is pretty special and there is nothing better than witnessing a doggie pile against Arcadia.

Good luck to the 2018 seniors.  It has been a pleasure watching you grow as players and men over the years.  You guys have represented the program with class, grit, and perseverance.  You will be missed!

Finally, congratulations to the 2018 Falcons on your 3rd consecutive Pacific League Championship and reaching the quarterfinals of the playoffs.

Enjoy the pics.

See you at the next game...maybe...
